Work has officially commenced on a new £10 million community hub in Greenock, designed to support people with learning disabilities and autism.
The state-of-the-art facility is being constructed on the site of the former Hector McNeil Swimming Pool on Brachelston Street.
Led by Inverclyde Council and the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), in collaboration with development partner hub West Scotland, the project will provide a modern space for up to 50 adults and young people with learning disabilities. The facility also has provisions for broader community use.
The new hub will replace the Fitzgerald Centre in Greenock and the McPherson Centre in Gourock, the latter of which has been closed for several years. It aims to enhance the support available to individuals with learning disabilities while offering a welcoming and inclusive environment for the local community.
The project has been designed by architects Holmes Miller, with Ogilvie Construction serving as the main contractor. The facility will offer cutting-edge amenities tailored to meet the needs of its users, reflecting the council’s commitment to providing high-quality services and infrastructure.
The development represents a significant investment in Inverclyde's future and highlights the council's dedication to improving resources for residents with learning disabilities and autism.
Construction is now underway, marking a key milestone for a project that will play a vital role in supporting individuals and fostering a sense of community in Greenock and beyond.
