STORY has been appointed the main contractor for the delivery of accessibility works at Uddingston station, working on behalf of Scotland's Railways.
Engineers will use a crane to install a 75-tonnes steel structure for the new footbridge and lift tower, as part of the Access for All programme to improve accessibility at stations across Scotland's Railway.
A pedestrian walking route will remain and all temporary changes will be signposted well in advance and during the closure.
Station users should ensure their vehicle is removed from the car park before the closure on Wednesday 20 March.
Susan Menmuir, scheme project manager for Uddingston AfA, said: "We've made great progress on the project to improve accessibility at Uddingston but we appreciate that in delivering this vital project we rely on the patience of the communities who live near and use the station.
"The total weight of the whole structure is 75-tonnes with the largest component, the bridge deck, weighing approximately 15-tonnes. Our teams will be using use a 230-tonne crane and a 60-tonne crane to lift this superstructure.
"Closing the car park is the safest and most efficient way of bringing it onto the platform. However, we understand it will be an inconvenience for commuters and we thank them for their understanding."
The project is expected to be completed this summer. It will make it easier for those with limited mobility or travelling with children, luggage, or cycles to move between the platforms.
