Barratt Developments Hosts Bring Your Daughter To Work Day

Construction News Image
Inspiring mums at Barratt Developments Scotland welcomed their daughters to work for the day to help nurture the next generation of talent.

The visit took place to mark International Women's Day to show the youngsters what their mums do when they go to work. The housebuilder hosted the event to provide a behind the scenes look, as part of a wider initiative to attract women to the construction industry by introducing them from a young age.

The girls took part in some fun activities, such as learning about house models and designs, before taking a tour of the Bishopbriggs development.

Amongst the Barratt Developments colleagues, who work across Glasgow and central Scotland, was gran Anne Ross. Her daughter Laura Ross has been with the company for over ten years after following in her mum's footsteps. They were both joined on the day by 10-year-old granddaughter Ava who they hope will follow suit one day.

Sales Director Anne, who is celebrating 15 years with the business, loves helping people find their dream home and encouraged daughter Laura to join the housebuilding industry. She hopes that in the future her granddaughter Ava may do the same, with the range of career paths available - particularly the Graduate Programme and Apprenticeship Schemes - which allows people to find their preferred skillset.

Laura Ross, Senior Sales Adviser at Barratt Developments West Scotland, said: "My daughter Ava is already considering a career in housebuilding after hearing so much about it from the family. She's extremely lucky to be invited to Barratt events, such as this one, and has built a lovely relationship with my colleagues and clients. She's extremely artistic and I think she would make an excellent architect as she's constantly asking questions about how the houses are built and designed.

"My mum was the reason I joined the industry, we both love working with clients and she knew I'd be perfect for the role. I'd love to do the same for Ava one day and hope she looks up to her mum and gran for inspiration."

Barratt West Scotland Sales Director, Estelle Sykes, was joined by nine-year-old daughter Amber and Suzanne Craven, Barratt West Scotland Finance Director, welcomed daughter Lucy, aged 12.

The three school girls familiarised themselves with some working drawings and show home designs when they visited Boclair Mews on Saturday morning.
