Ossian Launches First Public Consultation On Array Wind Farm

SSE Renewables has announced the first public consultation on the proposed Ossian Wind Farm in Array.

On completion, Ossian will be one of the largest floating offshore wind farms in the world, producing up to 3.6GW of renewable energy – enough to power up to 6 million homes annually.  Occupying 858km² of seabed 84km off the Angus coast, Ossian is one of the largest lease areas to be offered by Crown Estate Scotland to any bidder in the ScotWind leasing round.

Fraser Malcolm, Offshore Consents Manager for Ossian, said: "Ossian will utilise new technology which offers Scotland and the whole of the UK a golden opportunity to be a global leader in the sector.

"As a floating offshore wind farm, it will allow us to harness the green, clean-energy wind resource to a greater extent than ever before, free from depth constraints. It is anticipated it will be in the water for over 30 years, offering a long-term environmental solution as well as benefits to the community and the supply chain."

As part of the project development, Ossian are committed to undertaking extensive and ongoing engagement with all stakeholders to ensure their input is considered, and to help inform the ongoing Environmental Impact Assessment work.

As part of this engagement, the virtual public consultation launched on Monday 22 January and will run for four weeks until Monday 19 February. Find out more on the public consultation website.

What is the consultation for?

This public consultation event is designed to keep the public and other interested parties up-to-date on the development of the wind farm array, which focuses solely on the wind farm site, and to encourage feedback as Ossian progresses towards planning application submission.

Ossian anticipate further events for the export cable and onshore infrastructure in 2024. These elements are subject to separate planning application and are in the early stages of project development. We will keep the public, interested organisations and consultees updated as it progresses to the next phase.

Over the course of the month there will be four live question and answer sessions that will cover, project introduction, environmental assessments, supply chain and human environment.

You will be able to access the four live question and answer sessions via the links below.

• Project introduction - Wednesday 24 January at 6pm

• Environmental assessments - Tuesday 30 January at 3pm

• Supply chain - Friday 9 February at 2pm

• Human environment - Friday 16 February at 4pm

We want to hear your feedback

It's important that we hear from as many people and groups as possible in this public consultation. Interested parties will be able to leave feedback via the online forms.
