The UK government has awarded funding of almost £11.3 million for the regeneration of land at a former coal fire power station in East Lothian.
The funding, from the Levelling-Up Fund, will be used to free up developable land at the former Cockenzie Power Station.
The power station was closed in 2013 and demolished in 2015. East Lothian Council then acquired the site in 2018.
This funding will prepare the site for redevelopment.
Funding will support key preparation works on the site.
These include:
• removal of the bunding that currently surrounds the former coal store
• using the bund material to level the former power station area
• repairing and upgrading the coastal flood defences to the North of the site
• accessibility improvements to John Muir Way
Redevelopment of the land is part of East Lothian Council's wider vision for the site which aims to enhance public areas along the waterfront. The funding will bring investment and jobs to the area.
