City Gate Construction (CGC) has announced the launch of four fire station upgrade projects in south and Central Scotland
Two of the largest projects will see CGC replace the roofs of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s bases in New Galloway in Kirkcudbrightshire and Gretna in Dumfriesshire.
In the other two projects, CGC will carry out internal upgrade works at the station in Biggar, south Lanarkshire, and the installation of a new flag pole in Motherwell.
At New Galloway, the works will comprise the replacement of slate roofing, including three Velux roof lights, replacement of aluminium windows, new main entrance door and new fuel store door.
As the station will remain fully operational during the programme, scaffolding will be erected in a way to maintain 24-hour entry and exit for fire tenders, and all working areas will have to be kept clear and tidy.
At Gretna, the existing tiled roof will be stripped back to the joists and replaced with new. Works also include new fascias, soffits and downpipes.
As with New Galloway, the station will remain fully operational during the programme, so 24-hour entry and exit for fire tenders will have to be maintained.
At Biggar, all internal fire doors will be replaced with new FD30 and FD60 doors, and the surroundings and finishes will be upgraded.
Once more, the station will remain fully operational while these highly specialised doors – including 12mm pyrobelite fire glass, 7mm purobelite fire glass, intumescents, drop seals and oak surroundings – are installed.
All works – with a value of nearly £200,000 – will commence today, (Monday September 18, 2023), with completion dates varying from September 22 to October 30.
