Over £2bn Education Facilities Delivered Across Scotland

A total of 177 new schools and nurseries worth more than £2 billion has been delivered by Scotland's five regional hub companies.

The public-private partnership bodies will come together for the Learning Places Scotland conference on 15th November at the SEC Glasgow to showcase their success in creating modern learning facilities that will benefit communities for many years to come.

The hub companies continue to build on their successful track record with a further £361 million of education projects under construction and £665.5 million in development.

The hub programme in Scotland delivers significant positive social impacts and community benefits. All of the hubs have adopted a social value approach to their projects that boosts economic impact and sustainability in the communities they serve. 80% of hub contracts are awarded to Scottish SMEs with construction of hub projects, supporting over 6,768 jobs. They have created 336 graduate places and generated 1,236 new apprenticeships.

David MacDonald, National Hub Programme Director at the Scottish Futures Trust, said: "In the last 12 months, despite the volatility in the global construction markets, nine new schools have been handed over and nine more have started on site. All hub projects are developed with a focus on delivering against Scottish Government policy priorities of net zero, place and inclusive economic growth and represent the very best facilities for pupils to learn, teachers to educate and the community to come together. The Learning Places Scotland conference is a fantastic celebration of achievement, aspiration and opportunity and I am delighted to see how the future education landscape is being shaped in such a collaborative manner."

Shirley-Anne Somerville, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, will give a keynote address at the conference. The theme of the event is "Connected Learning Shaping Connected Futures", which aims to support more collaboration around the planning and implementation of new integrated learning environments to improve education and the life chances of children and young people.
