'Pint and A Plan' Initiative To Open Discussion On Climate Action

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has announced a special event to bring people together to discuss climate action.

'Pint and A Plan' is a series of events being held across Scotland in association with Tennent's and in partnership with 2050 Climate Group, which are aimed at those who are new to taking climate action or simply don't know where to begin.

The events will be held in pubs which will create an informal space where people can come and learn, share and engage in discussions while gaining some useful tips to take home. The first event takes place on 25 September at Market Bar in Dundee.

Attendees will hear from speakers covering three main topics including consumption, travel and finance. Each talk will be followed by a small group discussion with the goal of starting ongoing conversations amongst attendees around how we can all take action on the climate crisis. The events are free to attend for those aged 18 and over, with a particular focus on those aged 18-35.

Pint and A Plan is the latest initiative from Tennent's which is committed to the fight against climate change. Since 2019, Tennent's has invested £14M in sustainable initiatives as part of its 'Life is Bigger than Beer' pledge including the installation of an anaerobic digestion plant as well as a carbon capture facility.

The brewer has also eradicated single use plastic from its canned products, uses 100% renewable electricity, works only with local suppliers to source barley alongside water from Loch Katrine and has removed all waste going to landfill since 2012.  Earlier this year, Tennent's also added 'Please Enjoy Sustainably' to its cans, encouraging consumers to consider their recycling habits with a can of Tennent's able to be back on a shelf within 60 days when recycled.

Commenting, Cameron Matthews, senior brand manager for Tennent's, said: "Everyone has a role to play in the fight against climate change, but for many it can often seem quite daunting on where to start. We hope our 'Pint and A Plan' events provide a platform for Scots to either join or continue the conversation and we're really excited to get started in Dundee this month.

"As one of Scotland's oldest businesses, we take our part in the fight against climate change very seriously and recognise the wider role we can play in encouraging consumers to consider their own environmental impacts. We've already made a number of improvements as part of our 'Life is Bigger than Beer' campaign, but we know there's still a lot of work to be done now and in the years to come."

Martin Grey, head of communications & marketing at SEPA, added: "From extreme weather, frequent flash floods and sea level rise to forest fires and water scarcity, Scots today are living through a double whammy of climate and nature emergencies.

"As we kick off Scotland's Climate Week the focus is on climate conversations. It's right that together with others, the voices of young people and communities from across Scotland are heard by those seeking to build a more sustainable future. At SEPA we're working across the country to hear those voices and we commend progressive partnerships or businesses like Tennent's for listening and acting."

David Smith, Trustee at 2050 Climate Group, commented: "We're incredibly excited about this partnership and its potential to empower a new audience of young people to lead Scotland's transition to a just and sustainable society. Since 2014 we've equipped hundreds of 18-35 year olds with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead action on the climate crisis. We want to mainstream climate action and these events will enable even more people to get involved in the climate conversation."

Pint and A Plan will be held on Sunday 25 September from 3pm-5.30pm at Market Bar, Dundee. Future events include Inverness on 30 October and Southern Scotland/Scottish Borders on 27 November. The events are free to attend. For more information or to book tickets please visit www.pintandplan-dundee.eventbrite.com.
