Essential Road Maintenance Works Announced For A83 Minard

Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland have announced that an essential road maintenance project on the A83 between Inverary and Lochgilphead is set to get underway on Tuesday 14 September.

The overnight project will involve teams reinstating traffic loops across a section of the A83 near Minard. The maintenance will be undertaken between 7pm and 2am each night with works scheduled to be completed by 2am on Saturday 18 September.

Due to the narrow road widths at this location, the A83 will be closed in both directions between Inveraray and Lochgilphead during working hours to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. Vehicles will be escorted through the work site using pre-set amnesty periods arranged for 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm and midnight. Motorists are encouraged to arrive in good time to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty periods.

The A83 will be open during the daytime with a 30mph speed limit in operation to ensure vehicles can safely pass through the works on a temporary road surface.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times. Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative said: "This road maintenance project will allow teams to reinstate traffic loops at the traffic lights through the single lane section of A83 near Minard. By reinstating the traffic loops, it will ensure the lights remain efficient by detecting waiting traffic and letting motorists through if there is nothing coming the other way, ensuring a better flow of traffic.

"The overnight closures are necessary in order to protect operatives and road users given the narrow width of the A83 at this location. We've taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and providing amnesty periods for traffic.

"Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete the project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information."
