Plans have been announced to further expand and deliver additional treatment capacity to help Local Authorities and commercial waste producers meet the requirements of the municipal waste landfill ban.
Levenseat confirmed the proposals after West Lothian Council approved planning permission for an increase in site capacity from 400 000 to 750 000 tonnes per annum.
The announcement comes as Levenseat near completion of commissioning phase one of their new waste treatment facility which includes a materials recycling & fuel preparation plant and integrated waste gasification power plant. The overall capacity of phase one is 250,000 tonnes pa. The materials recycling and fuel preparation facility opened in September 2017.
Angus Hamilton, Managing Director, said: "This is an exciting time for Levenseat as phase one of the waste treatment facility nears completion of commissioning. This decision is welcomed as it gives us the flexibility required for our anticipated growth. We are very much looking to the future and will be pushing forward with the development of the second phase of our facility at Levenseat."
Levenseat hold planning permission to expand the capacity with the construction of a second phase. An increased capacity grid connection was secured in 2016.
