The final phase of the new £26 million secondary school in Campbeltown has been completed.
Despite staff and students moving into the school last year, the old school building still had to be demolished to create a large car park, brand new 3G pitch and a sensory garden, complete with raised beds for pupils to cultivate.
The school was then officially opened yesterday, Tuesday 04 June, with pupils offering guests a tour of the new state-of-the-art facilities.
Argyll and Bute Council's Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly described the event as a "very historic occasion" for the people of South Kintyre.
She added: "We want the very best start for our children and young people, and we want Argyll and Bute to be the best place for them to grow up. We want families to remain in this area, and be attracted to live here.
"New state of the art facilities such as this will help us to achieve that, benefitting pupils for many years to come and enabling them to achieve their full potential.
"It is clear from the demonstrations we have seen that we have very talented young people in our schools and I would like to wish them all the very best in their learning journey in this wonderful new school."
Andrew Jack, Pre-construction Director for Morrison Construction, who worked on the project, added: "It was great to be at Campbeltown Grammar School and hear how pupils and staff have been enjoying the new facilities since moving in during February last year.
"We are delighted to have been part of the delivery of this modern learning campus that will be at the heart of the Kintyre community for years to come.
"Through the construction project, we made a significant and sustainable contribution to the local economy, engaging with the local supply chain and providing numerous local employment and apprenticeship opportunities. We wish everyone at Campbeltown Grammar School well for the future."
