Work is progressing on the £2.4 million Skolie Burn Bridge replacement project between Addiewell and Loganlea.
Boreholes and remedial grouting work will be carried out following the completion of initial ground investigation works. Disused mine workings were identified beneath the site during investigations.
Traffic management will be implemented on the bridge from Monday 10 September to allow the preparatory work to take place.
Three-way temporary traffic lights with associated lane restrictions and alterations to the footway will be in place for an estimated five weeks.
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: "Local residents and those using Skolie Burn Bridge are warned to expect delays from Monday 10 September. The works are expected to last around five weeks.
"Skolie Burn Bridge is thought to have been built in the mid 1800's, with an extension added at a later date, and now requires to be replaced. The current bridge has had restrictions in place for a number of years, so is not suitable for all traffic."
The main bridge replacement works are scheduled to start from March 2019 and could last up to nine months.
