A new Water Treatment Plant has been successfully delivered in Orkney, serving customers in North Hoy and Graemsay.
The transportable treatment unit (TTU), which uses modern membrane treatment technology, was designed, built and tested for Scottish Water by Ross-shire Engineering at its specialist plant in Muir of Ord, near Inverness.
It was then carefully transported to its long-term home near Sandy Loch by road and ferry earlier this week, as part of a £2 million investment by Scottish Water to upgrade the works.
Gavin Steel of Scottish Water said: "We're pleased the delivery of the new treatment plant went smoothly and would like to thank road and ferry users for their patience while this was underway.
"Assembling the plant in factory conditions in Muir of Ord means we are able to reduce greatly the length of construction activity and total volume of traffic to the site, helping to minimise the impact of the work on the local community.
"We anticipate the new treatment works will be complete by the autumn and will ensure that customers in North Hoy and Graemsay receive an improved supply of fresh, clear and great-tasting drinking water well into the future."
