Wills Bros has reached a milestone on a £3 million flood protection scheme in Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
The contractor has completed work to install culvert headwalls/outfalls on the Ittingstone Burn and the Meadow Burn.
In addition, carrier drains and manholes have been built adjacent to the A920 Dufftown-Huntly road, with work underway to create a large earthwork bunds next to the road.
A three-week closure is planned for the A920 and C110s from next month to enable the Ittingstone Burn culvert, linking it to the River Deveron, to be upgraded under the carriageway.
In the Meadows area, work has started on the bunds alongside the river embankment. The footbridge adjacent to the nursing home will also be replaced by spring.
The council's head of Roads, Landscape Services and Waste Management, Philip McKay, said: "We appreciate that a road closure at this time of year is less than ideal, especially as the diversion is significant.
"The only alternative option however would be to delay the culvert work until later in the year, with a knock-on effect for the delivery of the overall flood scheme, potentially incurring significant additional costs."
