New figures have revealed over 40,000 UK homes were registered during the second quarter of this year.
According to the National House-Building Council (NHBC), it registered 41,222 new properties in Q2, a 1% increase from the same period last year (40,931 new homes) and the strongest quarter since 2007.
While the South East and the North East saw an increase in registrations, areas such as Wales (-30%) and London (-29%) experienced a decline.
In addition, Scottish councils reported a decline in registrations, down from 3,237 in 2015 to 3,015 this year, while housing completions increased from 11,044 in 2015 to 11,330.
With UK completions rising by 6%, NHBC Chief Executive Mike Quinton said the figure "mirrors the strong growth seen in registrations in recent years".
"These registrations reflect continued industry confidence in the run-up to the EU Referendum at the end of June," he said.
"Indeed, this period was the strongest quarter since Q4 2007, albeit still some way off levels seen over a decade ago. NHBC remains fully committed to support the industry to build new homes to the highest possible standards."
