Three contracts have been awarded on a £22 million project to build a nuclear waste storage facility at Dounreay.
Amec Foster Wheel will design the safety and waste case of the store, while J Gunn & Sons have been awarded a contract for the site enabling works.
In addition Street Crane Special Projects will design the drum handling crane.
The waste will be mixed with cement in 500 litre steel drums.
Once completed, the storage facility will have the capacity for up to 2,800 drums.
Leigh Wakefield, Business Unit Director for Amec Foster Wheeler's Clean Energy business, said: "The decommissioning of the Dounreay site is an extremely demanding and complex process and one that is well suited to the skills we have in Amec Foster Wheeler. The design of this state-of-the-art facility is a key element in the decommissioning strategy of the site and one that we are looking forward to delivering for this important client."
The Highland Council granted planning permission for an extension to the Dounreay Cementation Plant in March.
Construction is expected to be complete by early 2018.
