Work is underway on a new primary school in Midlothian.
The £8.9m Gorebridge Primary School was designed by AHR Architects and is being built by Morrison Construction.
The start of work was marked by a sod cutting ceremony on 24 September.
The school will cater for up to 558 pupils with two classes in each year.
It will have an outdoor multi-use games area, changing rooms, a sports pitch and facilities for community use.
The school is set to be completed by autumn 2016.
Eddie Robertson, Managing Director, Morrison Construction, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen to build this new primary school in Gorebridge on behalf of Midlothian Council. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the council and to creating top-class facilities for pupils and teachers, as well as to ensuring the project benefits the wider local community."
In addition, 1,050 new homes are planned to be developed at Gorebridge.
Councillor Bob Constable said: "We're really looking forward to welcoming the first pupils next year in what will be a state-of-the-art learning environment.
"With so many new homes being built in the area, I'm sure it won’t be long until the school becomes a valued community resource."
