Fife Council and Police Scotland are warning residents to be alert against traders committing doorstep crime.
Recently the council has heard of a trend where doorstep callers offer to clean out guttering in a ploy to gain customers trust.
They will then state the roof requires repairs or tiles replaced, charging substantial amounts for very poor work.
Other cases include individuals posing as thermal companies attending households to check a loft for proper insulation, thereafter appearing with quantities of saw dust and maggots, stating there is wood worm in the rafters.
These are always false, with the products sprayed on to 'treat' the problem providing no anti-wood worm properties.
The council has reminded the public to be alert on aggressive sales trends, stating: "If it's too good to be true, it probably is."
