Kilmarnock town centre is set to undergo a major upgrade next week, as improvement work begins at Foregate North car park.
The project will begin on Monday 16 March as part of a larger integrated scheme that has already seen a pavement being installed at the viaduct.
At the Foregate North car park, works will include a new pavement around the perimeter of the car park replacing the current cobbled areas, an improved pedestrian crossing to the Foregate coupled with improvements to the car park itself, new parking bays to suit larger vehicles, the installation of an electric vehicle charging point and motorbike and cycle stands.
Councillor Jim Buchanan, Spokesperson for Delivering Community Regeneration said: "Throughout Kilmarnock town centre huge improvements have been made to the built environment. The historic heart of the town at Bank Street and John Finnie Street are being completely transformed with investment in our buildings but also through environmental improvements with new lighting and paths greatly enhancing the look of the town.
"At the Foregate this integrated approach will continue. We are making practical changes to the car park, improving both vehicle and pedestrian access to the Foregate area of the town, as well as addressing environmental issues. Trees will be planted to improve the look of this area, new lighting will be installed and the paths will be built using attractive natural stone."
The works will be managed by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance and carried out by McGivney Construction Ltd of Fenwick.
The project is due to begin Monday 16 March be completed by the end of May. The car park will remain closed for the duration.
