Perth and Kinross Council has said it will continue with a number of road improvements in Crieff, despite confirmation from Tesco that it will no longer be constructing a new store in the area.
The retailer had previously committed to the works before it pulled out of opening the new store.
The improvements will be carried out at Broich Road in Crieff and will include widening the existing footpath, installing new street lighting and the introduction of a 30mph speed limit. The local authority added that this speed limit will be reduced to 20mph at the beginning and end of the school day, due to the nearby location of Strathearn Community Campus, the town's new primary school and St Dominic's R.C. Primary School.
Councillor Alan Grant, Depute Leader of Perth and Kinross Council, said: "It is very disappointing that Tesco has decided not to pursue plans to develop a new supermarket in Crieff.
"Council officers and the developers worked together over a number of years, along with other agencies and in consultation with the local community, to progress the development as far as possible. However, it was ultimately a decision for the supermarket group to make."
It is understood the works will be completed by summer 2015.
