A project to reduce flooding in Torrance, East Dunbartonshire, is set to begin next month. The work will see improvements carried out to the waste water infrastructure in the area, Scottish Water has said.

The £420,000 scheme will see a new sewer installed as well as the construction of eight manholes and a screen chamber along Park Crescent and into the Woodmill Park area. It will increase the capacity of the local network and tackle flooding issues in storm conditions which have affected two properties in Park Crescent. Work is due to commence on 9 February and take around 12 weeks to complete.

The contractor for the scheme is amey-Black and Veatch.

Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the project.

Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's regional communities team manager, said: "Scottish Water is always working hard to do the right thing for the environment in Scotland and we have identified essential improvements that are required to our waste water infrastructure in this part of Torrance.

"These improvements will reduce the risk of sewer flooding which has affected properties in this area for some time and we are sure that the householders directly affected, and others, will welcome the start of this project."
