Councillors in Dundee are to be asked to supported approve plans to help create a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at Baxter Park, it is understood.
A report is due to go before the council's environment committee next week.
The local authority has been working with the community to develop the MUGA on a disused bowling green located at the southern end of the park.
Already, environmental group The Friends of Baxter Park have secured £187,232 of Big Lottery funding for the work, while a lease has been agreed between the organisation and Dundee City Council.
The committee is now being asked to approve £5,000 for fees, survey work and a warrant application.
Councillor Craig Melville, Environment Convener, commented: "It is great to see this project is almost ready to get underway. The local community has already put in a lot of effort and the city council will continue to work alongside them to make the MUGA a reality. I hope locals will be able to enjoy a range of sports and activities for years to come."
Irene Shearer, Chair of The Friends of Baxter Park, added: "The Friends of Baxter Park have been pursuing this project in partnership with the Environment Department and are delighted it is finally moving forward.
"The MUGA will provide the park with a facility unlike anything else it has at present. It will help improve the physical and mental wellbeing of the local community and hopefully encourage people into the park that may not have used it regularly prior to the MUGA being installed."
