ScottishPower has confirmed that a controlled demolition is to take place at Cockenzie Power Station next week.
The work will see the steel-framed coal bunkers, located to the rear of the power station, razed to the ground.
The demolition will take place on Thursday 11 December at 2pm.
It will be managed by ScottishPower's main contractors, Brown and
Mason.
In order to facilitate the works, the utility provider has said a section of the John Muir Way at the back of the station will be closed from 1pm, reopening as soon as is safe to do so following the demolition. Elsewhere, the Edinburgh Road will close at the front of the site for the safety of drivers.
For those interested in watching the demolition, a section of the Greenhills will be made available, but no parking provisions will be in place.
This will be the ninth explosive demolition to take place at Cockenzie over the last year, following a programme to remove the steel precipitators. ScottishPower has also confirmed the current decommissioning programme remains on schedule, with the site's twin chimney stacks due to be demolished around summer 2015.
George Camps, ScottishPower Project Manager, said: "We have again been working closely with the Police and East Lothian Council to put plans in place for this explosive demolition event. Every aspect of this project has been carefully planned to minimise any disruption for local residents and road users."
