Kingdom Housing Association has confirmed it has applied for planning permission in principle to construct almost 50 homes at Pitscottie Road in Cupar.
If approved, the plans would see up to 49 affordable homes built at a site to the east of Tarvit Drive in the town.
Subject to planning approval, as well as final confirmation of funding, detailed proposals would be published next year, with building work beginning in 2016. A scheduled completion date of 2017 has been put forward.
The housing association has said it is also in talks with the Vivarium Trust which is a locally-based charity group that aims to promote co-housing. It is understood Kingdom is looking at the possibility of incorporating a co-housing project.
Bill Banks, Chief Executive at Kingdom, commented: "There is a great need for more affordable housing in Cupar. We believe the opportunity for local people to access modern, high-quality, energy-efficient housing will prove very popular."
A public consultation event regarding the development will be at Cupar Corn Exchange on Tuesday 25 November, from 3pm to 7pm. Representatives from both Kingdom and Vivarium will be in attendance and the local community will be able to find out more about the project.
