Repair works on the Dura Den are to commence following the appointment of a contractor to the scheme.
George Leslie Ltd has been appointed by Fife Council to carry out the project.
Since October 2012, the C45 road through Dura Den has been closed after flooding – as a result of heavy rainfall – caused the retaining walls supporting the road to collapse. Properties in the area were also damaged.
Now, work to repair the structure is finally set to begin.
George Leslie Ltd will commence work next month with site preparation and temporary stabilisation works being completed before the Christmas break. In the new year, work will the begin on the construction of bored pile retaining walls, totalling 80m in length. These will support the road and protect the area from further landslips.
Work is expected to be completed in late spring/early summer 2015.
The council has said the project will cost around £800,000.
When completed, Fife Council has confirmed it will resurface the road throughout the damaged area.
The restoration project has been welcomed by the local authority.
Councillor Pat Callaghan, Executive spokesperson for Environment and Transportation, said: "I am delighted we have appointed a contractor and work will soon get started. This has been a complex and challenging project and has been a long time in the planning.
"I commend Dura Den residents for their patience and ask for their co-operation as the works get underway. I hope residents will be happy with the end result."
