A new community flat has been opened on the Glenavon estate in Glasgow.
The project has been made possible by the Glenavon Residents' Association, and it will run the flat rent-free thanks to the Maryhill Housing Association.
The new scheme has been designed to benefit residents of the three multi-storey tower blocks in the estate.
The flat is located on the first floor of one of the blocks and has been designed to be a focal point for the Association's activities where the group can hold its meetings. It also features a library with donated books and a "quiet room" which can be used for counselling, it is understood.
Maryhill Housing Association has invested millions into the estate since it took ownership in June 2011, and has also worked hard to encourage the local community to get involved. A number of improvements to residents' living conditions as well as the local area have been carried out. Some of these improvements include re-cladding the three tower blocks with improved insulation to provide warmer, easier to heat homes, while rooftop lighting has been installed. In addition, new lifts have been put into the buildings and security has also been improved. The housing association also has an office in one of the blocks to provide easier access for its residents.
Jamie Ballantine, community engagement manager at Maryhill Housing Association, is quoted by Scottish Housing News as saying: "The community flat is a great new addition which will undoubtedly benefit the Glenavon community.
"The Glenavon Residents' Association are to be congratulated for their hard work in all that they are doing to make this community a better place in which to live."
