A new skate park has officially opened in Newtowngrange, Midlothian.
The £76,000 facility is the result of a successful partnership between the community and the local council.
Around 300 local people had signed a petition in favour of the skatepark, while young people in the area also created a dedicated Facebook page for the project. Midlothian Council's Land and Countryside Services managed the initiative and helped secure money from major organisations, while the community also raised money themselves and with local backers.
Councillor Derek Rosie, cabinet member for parks and open spaces, commented: "It's wonderful to see what can be achieved when communities, local authorities and other bodies work together. Many thanks to everyone from the young people here today, to Newtongrange Community 1st, our Land and Countryside Services and all the bodies who have given money including WREN and Network Rail.
"This is a major achievement and is a facility that will be enjoyed for decades to come. You've all worked hard to make sure the final result is an exciting, challenging skatepark that's fun to use."
Ben Walker from WREN, which provides grants under the terms and conditions of the Landfill Communities Fund, added: "WREN is committed to funding projects that make a real difference to local communities, children and families.
"The new bespoke skate park within Welfare Park, suitable for various wheeled sports including BMX bikes, rollerblades and skateboards, will provide a fully accessible sports facility for local young people and will encourage outdoor activities and promote a healthier lifestyle. We're delighted to support Midlothian Council to provide this much needed resource."
Midlothian Council provided £38,000 to the project from its environmental funds for local ward projects, while WREN committed £30,000. Other organisations which helped fund the facility include Network Rail (£5,000), Midlothian Housing Association (£1,000) and Newtongrange Community 1st (£1,050).
