EDF Energy has said it has hired a further six apprentices for its Hunterston B Power Station.
The latest recruits are Rachel Boyd, 18 from Ardrossan; Michael Hodge, 22 from Largs; Keri Lumsden, 18 from Troon; Ryan Nisbet, 18 from Cumnock; Darren Whannel, 21 from Irvine; and 19-year-old Fraser Wright, also from Irvine.
The apprentices recently spent a week in the Lake District as part of a team building exercise, along with 53 other EDF apprentices. The week followed a tough recruitment process which started in autumn 2013.
Craig McGhie, Hunterston B's acting apprentice training co-ordinator, said: "The quality of applications was very high and so that means the quality of our apprentices will also be very high."
The students will spend their first two years at HMS Sultan, a Portsmouth-based training facility.
Mr McGhie added: "Many of our apprentices come from the local schools and it's important for us to ensure the parents are comfortable with the set up at HMS Sultan and so we take them to see the site first hand."
After this, the apprentices will return to Hunterston B power station to complete their apprenticeship on site.
