Markinch Hill in Fife is set to undergo a number of improvement works to transform the facility into a community recreational area.
The news comes after Glenrothes Area Committee said it had awarded £3,000 to the Markinch Environmental Action Group. The fund, which is being provided from the Markinch Common Good Fund, will go towards the development costs.
The planned works include:
• Clearing invasive plants and trees
• Improving drainage
• Planting native plants and trees
• Reinstating paths.
Welcoming the investment, Councillor Altany Craik, Chair of Glenrothes Area Committee, said: "This is a positive step forward for Markinch. Redeveloping Markinch Hill not only improves the local environment, but will provide a beautiful place of interest for residents and visitors to Markinch."
It is thought the overall cost of the project will be around £50,000. The Markinch Environmental Action Group has been raising funds for the initiative for some time, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Fife Environment Trust already secured.
