Work is continuing to progress on Kirkintilloch Town Hall in East Dunbartonshire.
The historic building is undergoing regeneration work to make it into a functioning multi-purpose facility for the community.
Holding works have been carried out at the site for a number of months and are due to be completed in August. This phase of work has included removing rot, repairing roofs, dressing back decayed stonework and completing surveys.
The local authority, in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust, are currently working to develop plans for the property and maximise the potential of the site. It is understood a development and consultation phase will be held over the summer and details will be announced nearer the time, while a Community Champions group has been assembled to help guide the project and represent the views of the wider community in the town.
Visiting the site, Council Leader Rhondda Geekie, said: "Holding works have been taking place for some months now and we are getting a clearer idea of what needs to be done to bring this building back to life, albeit in a new form. There is a significant challenge ahead to ensure the new facility offers high-quality benefits while being value for money.
"The aim is not to recreate the town hall as it was built more than a century ago, but to develop a flexible space which will be popular with people and groups of all ages - and for a variety of different uses.
"Plans are being developed by the Council and Trust - with preparations ongoing to carry out consultation during the summer."
Kirkintilloch Town Hall has been closed for 10 years. East Dunbartonshire Council chose to include the historic property within its 10-year Capital Investment Programme with the aim of redeveloping the building. It has also been identified as a priority in the Council's Kirkintilloch Masterplan.
