Planning permission for a new care home in Corstorphine has been approved by Edinburgh City Council.
A total of £8m will be invested in the development, which will see around 100 jobs created.
The two-storey, 70-bed care home will be managed by Care Concern Group and will be a state-of-the-art facility, promoting independent living with high quality services. It will also help to address a dramatic shortfall in care beds in the Edinburgh and Lothians area.
The home will have split dementia care/nursing care and rooms will include sitting areas and en-suite wet rooms, while facilities will include a cinema, library with computer facilities, spa, café, reminiscence room, wellness room with gym equipment, bar, putting green/bowling green and a roof top garden for residents to enjoy views over the golf course. In addition, it is understood vacant space– which is currently overgrown and fenced off – will also be opened up for wider community use.
Manpreet Johal, Director of the Care Concern Group, is quoted as saying: "We are delighted to have received planning permission for our care home at Pinkhill, which will promote independent living and deliver high quality services for residents.
"Not only will it deliver a considerable amount of investment and create an estimated 100 jobs, but it will also serve to address a recognized shortage of care beds across the Lothians as well as opening up and improving a currently vacant site for wider community use."
