The Highland Council has confirmed that a £20,000 project to improve the Raining Stairs in Inverness will commence next week.
The closure, which is temporary, will be in place from Monday 9 June and will allow work to be carried out on the popular walking route. The closure of the footpath will ensure maintenance and improvement works can be undertaken safely.
The scheme is expected to last for three or four weeks and will involve the reinstatement of drainage channels, repairs to steps and their under pinning, the painting of railings, graffiti removal, power washing and weed removal.
The Highland Council has said the Central Ward Discretionary Fund is contributing £6,500 to the costs.
Councillor Bet McAllister, Ward Councillor and Vice Chair of The Highland Council's Community Services Committee, is quoted as saying: "It's great that this work is being done as the Raining Stairs are not only well used by people walking onto the High Street but they are a feature of the city centre. The improvements will ensure they will be used for many more years to come."
