Design plans for a new dual carriageway link road in Aberdeen have been unveiled.
The road aims to solve the issue of ongoing congestion caused by the Haudagain roundabout in the city.
The design work has been undertaken over the past year and the preferred option for the scheme is through Middlefield, which is said to best meet the project's objectives such as reduced congestion, improved journey time and reliability, as well as improved road safety.
Commenting on the plans, Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "The bottleneck at Haudagain has caused congestion for motorists using the A90 for many years.
"This Government has been determined to progress the design work for the Haudagain Improvement scheme as quickly as possible so that the work can start as soon as the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route is completed in spring 2018.
"We have made clear on numerous occasions that we need to await completion of the AWPR to avoid making the existing traffic congestion at Haudagain any worse.
"The £3 million we committed to the design work means we can now confirm a preferred option for Haudagain which local residents and road users can now view and I would encourage them to have their say on our proposals."
Mr Brown added that any feedback provided will be used to help further the proposals for Haudagain, with a view to publishing draft Orders in summer 2015, in order to allow work to start in spring 2018.
