Midlothian Council has agreed to a three-month extension in discussions regarding the future of Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre.
Earlier this week, the local authority discussed plans for the former facility. One of the proposals was to demolish the centre which has lain empty since last year, but Councillors rejected this option.
Instead, they agreed to look at further information on existing bids – or new bids – for the site and meet again in June to decide the building's future. Those interested are encouraged to submit their bid within the next few weeks to allow enough time for them to be assessed. Currently, two groups have submitted bids for the site but there have been concerns over the future financial stability of the initiatives.
Councillor Owen Thompson, Leader of Midlothian Council, said: "There is clear merit in extending the time available and then looking again at bids received at the end of this period.
"As a council, we are supportive of helping community organisations and have backed projects like the Glencorse Centre in Auchendinnie and it is appropriate we give people more time to work up proposals."
