Argyll and Bute Council is to replace Oban's Soroba Lane Bridge.
Work on the £425,000 project will commence on Monday 3 March and will last for approximately 12 weeks.
The project will see the current bridge, which is shared by pedestrians and cyclists, replaced with a new road bridge and a separate footbridge.
The local authority has said that the current steel bridge is no longer serviceable and some sections have been greatly affected by rust. With the new structure, the road bridge will be wider, while the the new design will also focus on public safety. For example, by separating pedestrians from the traffic, the new footbridge – which will be fabricated off site – will be installed prior to work on the road bridge to ensure maximum pedestrian access.
Due to the nature of the work being carried out, some closures on Soroba Lane will need to be enforced.
Argyll-based firm MacFadyens has been appointed to carry out the work.
