Gartocharn Primary School in West Dunbartonshire has secured funds of £100,000 to create a new sports facility.
The local authority's Educational Services Committee agreed to match the £55,000 funding secured by Gartocharn Parent Council from SportsScotland to provide an all weather multi-use games area (MUGA).
The facility, which will also include a new security fence and flood-lighting, will provide pupils with excellent outdoor sporting facilities which will also be made available to let by local residents.
Commenting on the scheme, Councillor Michelle McGinty, Convener of Educational Services, said: "Gartocharn Parent Council has worked hard to secure the initial funding and it is thanks to their efforts that the school will get this new facility. The pitches will not only give the pupils a safe environment to play sports, but it will also give them an opportunity to develop and improve their skills.
"It is important that schools have adequate sporting facilities to encourage pupils into sports and promote a healthy lifestyle to the children."
Councillor John Mooney, Depute Convener of Educational Services, added: "This is good news not only for the school but for the local community and sporting groups who can apply to use the facilities outwith school hours. I hope the new games area will inspire the pupils and their families and encourage them to lead a healthier life."
Work on the project is due to begin within the next couple of months, with a scheduled completion date of late 2014.
