The second phase of the demolition of Lasswade High School, Midlothian, is continuing this week.
The new facility, worth £37.1m, is expected to open after the summer holidays.
The project has been developed by the Council in partnership with contractors BAM, the Scottish Futures Trust and the Scottish Government.
Once the old building is destroyed, the ground will be flattened and transformed into football, rugby and one 3G pitch for the school and local community.
The new community facilities at the site have been funded by the Council while the new school is being delivered from joint money from the Council and Scottish Government's Scottish Futures Trust.
BAM Construction completed the work, which also includes a feature entrance with coloured glazing, community meeting rooms, a new swimming pool gym, gymnastics academy, conference suite, plasma screens, Costa Coffee internet cafe and a new public library which is due to open next week.
Councillor Lisa Beattie, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "It really is the end of an era for the old school and some people will be sad to see it go. However, pupils, teacher, parents and the wiser community have a brand new, modern school to look forward too.
"The new £37.1m building really is quite remarkable with first class community facilities and educational environment for pupils and teachers to thrive in. We are turning the land of the old school into sports pitches which will be a great asset for the whole community, young and old alike."
