Dumfries and Galloway Council has said it is to integrate its Libraries, Customer Services Centres and Registration Services throughout the region.
As a result, the facility in Dalbeattie is set to move and integrate into the current library building on the High Street by the end of the year.
There is a proposal for the facility to then be relocated at some stage during 2016 into an area of the Dalbeattie Learning Campus – situated at the current Dalbeattie High School site – that the public will be able to access.
The proposals are in line with the local authority's policy to have fewer, but better, community assets while also maximising the community use of the schools' estate and embracing the community schools ethos.
If the plans are approved, Dumfries and Galloway Council will design the space in Dalbeattie Learning Campus, which at 170sq m, is a little smaller than the existing occupied space. However, the council has said this will give them the opportunity to ensure the quality of the new facility is of a high standard.
A decision as to whether the Library, Customer Service Centre and Registration Services are included in the Dalbeattie Learning Campus design will be made by the end of September 2013.
Residents and locals can share their views on the proposals via the Dumfries and Galloway Council website.
The survey closes on 16 August 2013.
