Work on the Helensburgh Public Realm Improvement (CHORD) project is due to start this week. It is expected work will last for around six to eight works.
The improvements include a new signalised pedestrian crossing in West King Street and enhancing the signalised pedestrian crossing on West Clyde Street.
It also includes upgrading three sets of traffic signals on Sinclair Street as well as the signals on the junction at East King St and Grant Street.
The contract for the works, which is partly funded by Strathclyde Passenger Transport, has been awarded to PEEK Limited.
Speaking about the project, Depute Area Leader Councillor Richard Trail said: "The letting of this contract not only kicks-starts the much need investment boost to the town centre, it delivers the eagerly awaited new signalised pedestrian crossing in West King Street, which the residents at Waverley Court and surrounding area have been campaigning for over a number of years."
Mr Trail added that the tender submissions for the main Public Realm Improvements (PRI) in the town centre and waterfront were currently being evaluated by the council and an announcement regarding the successful contractor is expected next month.
