Local residents and community leaders in Helensburgh have gathered to mark the start of works on site.
Those in attendance included Councillor Vivien Dance, Councillor Maurice Corry and Martin Gorman, Senior Development Surveyor at Waitrose, who is responsible for new Waitrose store sites in Scotland.
Paul Griffen, construction director for Barr Construction, who have been contracted by developers Drum Property, to build the store was also on site.
The new Waitrose and petrol filling station will open its doors to customers in the autumn. The main building programme commenced on Monday.
Waitrose currently has stores in Morningside and Comely Bank in Edinburgh, Byres Road in Glasgow and Newton Mearns. A new Stirling store opened on Sunday and Waitrose also hopes to build a new store in Milngavie, subject to planning permission being successfully achieved.
The Helensburgh store will be the company’s third new-build store in Scotland. It is 36,000 sq ft gross with 25,000 sq ft of trading space.
