Keil's Den Bridge To Be Ugraded

A structural inspection has highlighted the need to dismantle and strengthen Keil’s Den Bridge in Fife.

The inspection followed the collapse of the south east wing wall in 201.

The new work required the removal of the bridge deck fill prior to the dismantling of the affected walls, before any subsequent re-build could be carried out.

The wing walls are currently being reconstructed. The deck and adjacent wing walls will then be back-filled with structural material.

The drainage and service duct system will now be improved as part of the development, to reduce the historic issues with accumulating surface water.

Due to the construction methods, it has been necessary to close the road at the bridge for the period of the contract.

Pedestrian access has been maintained across the den over a temporary crossing, installed to the south of the bridge.

Fife Council says the closure is being monitored closely and Transportation and Environmental Services are working with the Contractor to ensure the road closure will be kept to a minimum.

Transportation and Environmental Services contracted T & N Gilmartin Ltd. of Cupar, who commenced work on 3 December.

The project is due for completion early March 2013.
