Engineering firm Cleveland Bridge has been awarded a contract to build part of the new Forth Road Bridge.
The development will form a link between Edinburgh and Fife.
It is thought more than 100 jobs will be created through the contract, which will see the company make steel girders to support viaducts at both ends of the new £790m crossing.
The firm said the deal would also secure 260 current jobs.
Work on the Forth project is due to finish in 2016.
Cleveland Bridge General Manager, Andy Hall, said: "We are delighted to have secured a significant contract on this prestigious project and look forward to working with FCBC.
"We have worked extremely hard to secure this contract against international competition and this contract will provide a solid foundation for our Darlington facility for the next 18 months, giving us the opportunity to recruit and build on our existing engineering, workshop and site resource."
Carlo Germani, FCBC Project Director, said: "Cleveland Bridge rightly enjoys an international reputation for their specialist skills and expertise built up over many years. The North and South viaducts are a vital component of the overall Forth Replacement Crossing project and we look forward to working with Cleveland Bridge in the period ahead."
