Renfrewshire Council has granted planning permission for the development of 147 homes at Dargavel Village in Bishopton.
Taylor Wimpey has been awarded the contract, which will see the beginning of the first phase of the project in the west of Scotland.
The 16.5 acre site development will include a range of three, four and five bedroom new homes in a variety of styles and sizes to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
Dargavel Village forms part of a multi-million pound regeneration programme that will include new community facilities alongside the new homes by a variety of developers.
Taylor Wimpey will be building according to the principles of 'Designing Streets'; planning guidance that aims to give priority to pedestrian and cycles rather than cars.
This will include the introduction of features such as road focal points and character areas, which are essentially shared spaces in a residential zone which provide a focus for social interaction.
Willie Burns, managing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said: “Our planning permission is the result of a key working partnership with both Renfrewshire Council and BAE Systems to bring to life and deliver their vision for Dargavel Village in Bishopton. And this is a very exciting time for the project as the implementation of many years of work begins.
"We expect to start works within the next few weeks, and plan to have our homes on sale by early 2013."
Lynda Johnstone, Bishopton Project Director for BAE Systems, said: "With the company now another step closer to delivering their mix of high quality family homes at Dargavel Village, we will soon see our vision for the area coming to life.
"The multi-million pound regeneration programme will result in a new community, which alongside the housing development, will include a new primary school, library, community centre, leisure facilities and woodland park to complement the existing friendly, close-knit village feel of Bishopton."
