Two recently refurbished retail units have been let by Angus Council as part of the Township Heritage Initiative (THI).
The project at 45 - 47 High Street, Brechin, has seen substantial building works undertaken, including the full stabilisation of the building, roof repairs and full re-roofing in slate.
The stone window sills and lintols were replaced using local second hand sandstone.
Timber preservation works were carried out, while the refurbishment also included new timber sash and case windows and cast iron rainwater goods.
The council acquired the ground floor shop units and first floor flat through funding awarded by the Scottish Government through the Town Centre Regeneration Fund.
The category B listed building was singled out as a priority project due to its depleting condition and prominent position in the conservation area.
It was placed on the Scottish Civic Trust’s Building’s At Risk register.
THI chairman Bob Myles said: "Demand for the two units was strong, so it’s been encouraging to see so many small businesses keen to invest in the High Street in the current economic climate. Both businesses are new start-ups and initial reaction to their presence has been very positive."
New tenant Tracy Collins, proprietor of Alexina Vintage, commented: "I am very excited about this project. We are very keen to promote recycling and lowering our carbon footprints and we want to offer a competitive alternative to the throw away fashion of cheap clothing. Hopefully this will save some of our customers the need to travel to Dundee or Aberdeen to shop for these goods."
