Bulldozers have moved in at an "eyesore" flooding site, the Glasgow Evening Times has reported.
East Renfrewshire council claims the homes at Waulkmill Avenue, Dunterlie, Barrhead, would be "uneconomical" to repair.
Ten homes are now to be demolished.
They were damaged in severe flooding two years ago and one property is fire-damaged.
Residents were consulted on the plans and then re-housed.
Councillor Kenny Hay has met with the Dunterlie Tenants Action Group and East Renfrewshire Council housing officers.
He said: "I am delighted to see the demolition work has started as no-one likes to see buildings that are beyond repair standing empty and boarded up. They became an eyesore to everyone who lives in the area."
The demolition work is expected to take eight weeks.
Also in Barrhead, a cottage in Lochlibo Road will be demolished following a spate of anti-social behaviour.
West Arthurlie Cottage, a 19th-century property, has been derelict for several years since it s last resident was taken into care.
Recently, vandals have targeted the cottage and fires have been lit in its grounds.
Councillor Danny Devlin welcomed the news that it would be pulled down.
He said: "For years residents have called for the property to be dealt with. The demolition will see a vast improvement in the area and end the spate of fires. It was only a matter of time before someone got hurt."
Demolition crews are expected to move in to West Arthurlie Cottage before the end of the month.
