A bridge that was out of service for more than a week following a road traffic action has been re-opened ahead of schedule.
The emergency closure of Milton Bridge, in the tourist hotspot Cairngorm National Park, was necessary after a serious collision on May 27.
Aberdeenshire Council said the A939 Gairnshiel to Bridge of Gairn road had to be closed during the repairs due to its narrowness.
Both bridge parapets needed repair from the council’s in-house construction team.
They finished the job on Monday, a few days early.
Philip McKay, head of roads and landscape services for Aberdeenshire Council, said the team worked hard and deployed additional resources to make sure the bridge was repaired as soon as possible.
He said: "Our construction team has done a great job getting this essential, emergency work completed so quickly – I'm sure anyone affected by the closure will be appreciative. We know closures on rural tourist routes such as this can cause inconvenience and disruption, but the bridge had to be repaired and unfortunately this was the only viable way to do it."
The council is currently engaged in trying to get the cost of the work back from the driver's insurers.
