Aberdeen City Council is inviting artists to submit a proposal to create a temporary light art piece that will be located in the Correction Wynd tunnel.
The aim of the commission, which will be installed later this year [autumn 2012], is to create a high quality artistic piece that will attract people to use the Green as a pedestrian route via Correction Wynd. This is turn will help promote a positive experience of the site and the city centre as a whole.
A budget of up to £18,000 is available to an artist or artists to carry out the commission which is supported through the Lively Cities (LiCi) project; a European partnership programme that looks at alternative ways to strengthen communities by 'reclaiming public space for public use'.
The artist or arts organisation must be experienced in the medium of light projection and can demonstrate a history of delivering high quality, innovative art practice within the public realm.
Aberdeen City Council's culture policy and partnership officer Mark Bremner said: "The ambition of the commission is to recognise both the need for more high quality art in the public realm as well as the importance of the Green as a unique cultural asset and route site within the city centre. We hope the winning proposal will succeed in progressing some of these aspirations."
The project brief and application form can be downloaded from www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/livelycities
Completed applications must be received by 5pm on Monday 26 March 2012.
