For the second straight year street lights in Dundee have been repaired twice as fast as the next best Scottish city.
Councillors will be told next week that as well as a swift response to problems, Dundonians can expect fewer faults in their street lighting, and for repairs to be cheaper than in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Members of Dundee City Council's city development committee will be told that on average repairs were made in two and half days in 2010/2011 compared with three and a half days in the next best performing city.
Committee convener Will Dawson said: "While there was a slight increase in the amount of time taken to repair faults this year compared with last, we know that this was caused by the exceptionally bad weather in December and January.
"As the partnership between the council and Tayside Contracts for the 24,129 street lights in the city becomes more established, a planned maintenance regime has been brought in.
"It means that groups of lamps in an area that we know are nearing the end of their life expectancy can be replaced before they go out.
"We are seeing as the partnership goes on that this not only cuts costs and reduces the number of lights out at any one time, it also improves overall reliability figures."
