Aberdeenshire Council is set to bid for a share of £12 million in funding from the Scottish Government's Universal Home Insulation Scheme for projects in the area.
Members of Aberdeenshire Council's Social Work and Housing Committee recently received a report detailing the success of previous schemes in Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
Residents in both towns took advantage of free loft and cavity wall insulation under the Scottish Government’s Universal Home Insulation Scheme which was brought forward in conjunction with Save Cash and Reduce Fuel (SCARF).
The local authority submitted a joint bid with SCARF and received £650,000 in funding that has led to over 1,400 privately owned households in Fraserburgh and Peterhead receiving free loft and/or cavity wall insulation.
The Scottish Government has announced that more funding will be available this year for local authorities to bid for.
Aberdeenshire Council will prepare a bid for part of this funding to offer free insulation to private households in north Aberdeenshire.
Further information will be available when the bid is complete, however the authority anticipates the scheme to be similar to the previous projects in Fraserburgh and Peterhead.
Chief Executive Officer for SCARF Jean Morrison said: "All the insulation will have to be installed this financial year so when homeowners receive the letter from us informing them about the scheme they should not delay in contacting SCARF.
"This is a perfect opportunity to save money. Loft insulation and cavity wall insulation will mean that householders will see a reduction in their fuel bills."
