East Kilbride Cricket Club is to benefit from more than £7,000 from the Whitelee Renewable Energy Fund.
The fund was set up in June 2007 by South Lanarkshire Council and is funded by ScottishPower Renewables, who operate Whitelee Windfarm.
The council is responsible for advising potential applicants, assessing applications and monitoring projects to ensure the community benefits associated with each project are delivered.
Formed in 1962, East Kilbride Cricket Club currently has 50 members, four adult and five youth teams.
The money from the REF will go towards specialised cricket equipment which it is hoped will increase club numbers.
The money awarded by Whitelee REF is dependent on the club receiving match funding for the project from other sources. The total cost of the project is £21,342.
Executive Director of South Lanarkshire Council's Enterprise Resources, Colin McDowall, said: "I am delighted that we are able to support such a worthwhile local project through the Whitelee Renewable Energy Fund.
"This type of project is unique and brings with it something of real value to the local community.
"The total awarded to the cricket club is £7469 which represents a significant investment in a project which will have a real benefit to the area."
